Client Background
Al-Kbous Water Delivery Company — one of Yemen's leading water delivery companies. Operates a fleet of 30+ drivers receiving 200+ daily orders by phone. Based in Sana'a with expansion plans to other cities.
Problem & Context
Al-Kbous water delivery company relied on a centralized phone-based ordering system, causing: (1) massive call center pressure with hundreds of daily calls, (2) frequent address and phone recording errors, (3) inability for customers to track orders or know estimated delivery time, (4) difficulty managing delivery fleet and route optimization, (5) no unified customer or order history database, (6) difficulty calculating driver revenue and evaluating performance.
Our Solution
We built a three-interface system with 7 REST API endpoints: (1) customer app (iOS & Android) for browsing products, placing orders, real-time delivery tracking on map (WebSocket, 3s refresh), online payment, and service rating, (2) driver app (iOS & Android) for receiving orders, viewing addresses on map, built-in Google Maps navigation, one-click delivery status updates, and work schedule management, (3) web admin dashboard for real-time order monitoring, product and pricing management, driver and fleet management (30+ drivers), performance analytics, and report generation. Notification system with 5 types: order confirmation, driver accepted, en route, arrived, and post-delivery rating. API endpoints: /api/auth, /api/products, /api/orders, /api/drivers, /api/tracking, /api/payments, /api/notifications.
Key Features
Full-Featured Customer App
Browse products, place orders with interactive map (Google Maps), live WebSocket delivery tracking (3s refresh), Stripe online payment, and service rating. Professional bilingual UI/UX. 4.8/5 star rating.
Smart Driver App
Receive orders via 7 API endpoints (/api/orders, /api/drivers, /api/tracking), built-in Google Maps navigation, one-click delivery status updates, work schedule management. 5 push notification types (FCM).
Live Map Tracking (WebSocket 3s)
Customers see the driver's location in real-time from order acceptance to delivery, updated every 3 seconds. Routes automatically optimized for 25% faster delivery.
Admin Dashboard & 7 API Endpoints
Real-time order monitoring, product/pricing management, 30+ driver fleet management, performance analytics with comprehensive reports. 5 notification types: order confirmed, driver accepted, en route, arrived, post-delivery rating.
Architecture
Cross-platform mobile apps built with Flutter (Dart) for iOS and Android from a single codebase, with Node.js backend, REST API (7 endpoints), and MongoDB database (5 collections: User, Product, Order, Driver, Rating). Uses Google Maps APIs for maps, routing, and route optimization, Firebase Cloud Messaging for 5 notification types, and WebSocket for real-time driver location tracking at 3-second intervals.
Security & Performance
(1) Phone number + OTP authentication, (2) SSL/TLS encryption for all data in transit and at rest, (3) role-based access (customer, driver, admin), (4) full audit trail for all operations, (5) JWT-based API protection, (6) payment data isolation.
Our Approach
We followed a Mobile-First methodology with separate interface designs for each user type (customer, driver, admin) since each role has completely different needs. We started with UX/UI design and actual user testing before writing any code. The three apps were developed in parallel with priority on the customer app first, then driver, then admin dashboard.
