Short definition

A system that lets a user sign in once and access multiple connected applications without re-entering credentials.

Extended definition

SSO reduces password fatigue and improves security (one strong password instead of 10 weak ones). Common protocols: SAML 2.0 (for enterprises) and OpenID Connect (for modern web). Providers: Okta, Auth0, and Microsoft Entra ID.
