Client Background
A private 50-bed hospital in Yemen with focus on surgery and obstetrics. Staff of 80+ including doctors, nurses, and administrators. Struggled with paper records and poor cross-department coordination affecting patient care quality.
Problem & Context
The private hospital faced: (1) scattered paper records making it difficult to track patient history and past results, (2) duplicate data entry across departments wasting medical staff time, (3) difficulty linking pharmacy, laboratory, and radiology to the unified patient file, (4) billing and insurance claim delays taking days, (5) no unified appointment and doctor scheduling system, (6) difficulty analyzing KPIs and bed occupancy rates.
Our Solution
We implemented a comprehensive medical ERP covering: (1) EHR with complete patient history, tests, lab results, radiology, and medications, (2) smart appointment scheduling with automatic reminders and reduced wait times, (3) pharmacy with drug database, inventory tracking, expiry management, and e-prescribing, (4) laboratory with results linked to patient files and critical value alerts, (5) radiology with PACS image integration, (6) electronic billing and insurance claims with automatic per-policy pricing.
Key Features
Full Electronic Health Records
Digital patient file containing medical history, diagnoses, lab results, radiology, and medications with instant access from any hospital department.
Smart Appointment System
Appointment scheduling with automatic SMS reminders, reduced wait times, and patient distribution by medical specialty.
Integrated Pharmacy System
Drug database, inventory and expiry tracking, e-prescribing directly linked to patient file with drug interaction alerts.
Lab & Radiology Management
Lab results and radiology images electronically linked to patient files with critical value alerts and periodic reporting.
Architecture
Web-based system built with Next.js, React, Node.js, and PostgreSQL with automated backups. Runs on the hospital LAN with remote access for administrative staff. Uses HL7 FHIR standards for health data exchange with lab and radiology equipment integration.
Security & Performance
Full compliance with healthcare information security standards: patient data encryption at rest and in transit, granular role-based access by medical role, audit logging for all read and write operations, encrypted daily and weekly backups, complete medical network isolation from the public internet.
Our Approach
We used a Big Bang with Parallel Run approach — running the new system alongside the paper system for a full month to ensure no data loss. Each day we transitioned two departments to the new system, completing the full transition in 3 weeks. This approach minimized risk and allowed staff to learn gradually.
